Ocular/Acne rosaceae

Symptoms

Chronic eye iritation, redness, burning, grainy sensation in the eyes of middle aged. Sometimes occurs in children. Pustules, papules, redness of the cheeks, forehead and nose. In later stages the nose is thickened (rhinophyma).

Treatment

  1. Long term oral tetracyclines under supervision.
  2. Warm compresses and eyelid hygiene.
  3. Treatment of any associated complication

Severe corneal complications in the form of perforation can occur. Associated chalazia and blepharitis are treated accordingly. Dry eye may also be found. It is therefore essential that any treatment must be under an ophthalmologist's supervision.
