Posterior vitreous detachment (PVD)SymptomsFloating "cobwebs", "small insects", "bugs", "tadpoles", "comma's", "hang-man's noose" like objects that change position as the eyes move (see also - "floaters" & "pars planitis". Specially visible against pale backgrounds and on closures of eyes during the day. Associated with blurred vision, flashes of light (more common in dim illumination). TreatmentNo treatment is indicated for PVD. If a sudden increase of "floaters" or "flashing lights" or "sparkles" occurs, or in the presence of a shadow or curtain like object occurs anywhere in the field of vision the patient must report immediately to the ophthalmologist. It could well be a very early sign of retinal break/detachment.
